There are many ways to find information in this digital world. One of the best ways individuals and companies present themselves is through LinkedIn. I recently came across an article in Money magazine  that gave some great tips on how to make a Killer LinkedIn Profile. Here are some of the highpoints.

Every Industry uses LinkedIn, and 90% of recruiter’s rely on the site. Your profile can’t just be a storage unit for career contacts-it needs to be a living breathing record of your professional life. People need to be told who you are and what you do. This is your online reputation. Take control of it.

1)      Know what to include and Leave off. Users who list their education appear in searches 17 times as much as those who don’t. A professional looking picture is a must have. Profiles with a photo get up to 21 times more views and up to 36 times as many messages.

2)      Instead of just saving the connections you’ve met throughout your professional life, actively engage with contacts by liking, sharing, and commenting on their activity. It’s fine to connect, but make sure you send a customized message in your invitation.

3)      Take a minute to think about your target audience, is it a potential employer? New clients? Tailor your words accordingly, and try not to be too dry.

4)      A really successful profile makes a person want to pick up the phone and call you so keep your profile alive. Update it often with examples of your work. Papers you have written, blogs, projects you have completed  and presentations you have nailed are all good options.

Hope this gives you some ideas on how to present yourself to the digital world.
